Citrea Introduces the Citrea Foundation to Accelerate Bitcoin’s Programmable Future

Today, we introduce the Citrea Foundation, an independent organization dedicated to supporting the growth and decentralization of Bitcoin’s programmable future. This marks a significant milestone for Citrea, bringing us closer to executing our vision of building the future of how the world interacts with Bitcoin.

The core mission of the Citrea Foundation is to empower the open-source community and builders to lower the barriers to Bitcoin adoption. In doing so, the Foundation ensures that protocol evolution remains a collaborative process driven by the community.

In pursuit of these values, the Foundation seeks to:

• Advancing Trustless Infrastructure: Funding fundamental research in cryptography to build Bitcoin bridges that don't require trust, collateral, or liquidity constraints.
• Ecosystem & Community Growth: Providing the strategic support and resources necessary to bootstrap a healthy and active Bitcoin ecosystem.
• Empowering Builders: Running grant programs to support developers in enabling capital-efficient ways to engage with Bitcoin.
• Stewarding Decentralization: Ensuring that the evolution of Bitcoin’s application layer follows a decentralized path.

Foundation Board of Directors

The Citrea Foundation is managed by an experienced Board of Directors overseeing and aligning the Foundation activities with its core purpose and values.

The Board of Directors consists of Orkun Kilic, Murat Karademir, and an independent non-executive director based in the Cayman Islands.

Orkun Kilic

Orkun is a co-founder and CEO of Chainway Labs, a core contributor to the Citrea protocol. Orkun is one of the original architects of the Citrea protocol and has been contributing to the application and developer ecosystem since the project’s early days.

Murat Karademir

Murat is a co-founder and COO of Chainway Labs, a core contributor to the Citrea protocol. Previously, Murat started a nonprofit organization, Inzva and has been working closely with talented engineers and builders.
