Countdown to Citrea Mainnet

We're officially announcing Citrea's road to mainnet. After more than two years of development, we’re now entering the final stages before launch.

Citrea's launch will deliver the first Bitcoin bridge verified by the Bitcoin Network and the first programmable execution environment fully secured by Bitcoin.

The Problem: Value Drain from Bitcoin to Centralized Entities and Other Chains

The gap between the growing demand for Bitcoin and the lack of support for Bitcoin applications has left users with a difficult choice: 

• Keep Bitcoin as a passive store of value or 
• Take risks with centralized entities and external networks 

This adoption path not only undermines Bitcoin’s role in decentralized finance but also jeopardizes the security and longevity of its network. Without a proper scalability solution, Bitcoin risks losing its relevance in decentralized finance and becoming obsolete as a network.

The Solution: Bitcoin Applications (₿apps) That Bring Utility, Demand and Liquidity to Its Network

Citrea is Bitcoin's first ZK rollup that enables Bitcoin to function as a fully programmable platform with a bridge optimistically verified by its network.

Citrea introduces a new category of applications (₿apps) that bring value to Bitcoin and are secured by its network. While Citrea's zero-knowledge rollup architecture secures its ₿apps with Bitcoin, its BitVM-based bridge Clementine provides native BTC liquidity with optimistic verification.

Citrea's Road to Mainnet with ₿apps

After years of building, we are about to deploy the first rollup architecture for Bitcoin as well as the first production-ready BitVM-based bridge that is verified by the Bitcoin Network. 

There are two technical milestones left until Citrea mainnet. These steps have already started and they are progressing in parallel. In addition to our technical milestones, ahead of Citrea mainnet, we'll have a campaign to invite early users to test Citrea and its ecosystem. 

Private and Public Audits

Citrea has already entered the auditing phase. The codebase is undergoing two separate audits: one for the rollup infrastructure and one for Citrea's BitVM-based bridge infrastructure. In parallel, the BitVM codebase by BitVM alliance is also being audited by a well-known audit firm.  

Private audits for Citrea rollup infrastructure are nearly complete and public audit competitions will begin shortly. We'll be sharing comprehensive reports on both the private and public audits soon.

Citrea’s bridge, named Clementine, is currently in private audits and will also go through public audits. We’ll publish detailed reports for the bridge audits as well. 

Citrea Risc0-to-BitVM Trusted Setup Ceremony

The first-ever trusted setup ceremony for ZK proofs used in BitVM will take place for Citrea's BitVM-based bridge, Clementine. This ceremony is a crucial process in ensuring the integrity and security of the cryptographic systems used in Citrea's Bitcoin bridge.

Although the trusted setup ceremony will be conducted with select individuals and partners, we will provide a guide for verifying the results.

₿apps Community Campaign

Ahead of Citrea mainnet launch, we’ll invite our early users to test Citrea and its growing ₿apps ecosystem. This campaign will both help us observe Citrea under high usage and make users familiar with the Citrea ecosystem before our mainnet launch. 

While this is not a technical milestone, ₿apps community campaign will be our way of:

• Marching toward the mainnet with our early users.
• Introducing a new category of applications, ₿apps.
• Celebrating the first Bitcoin applications built on Citrea.

This campaign will be invite-only and we’ll be sharing more details and ways to get involved soon.

Mainnet Launch: Bitcoin Finally Gets its ZK Rollup

Citrea will launch on the mainnet as Bitcoin’s first ZK Rollup featuring native Bitcoin applications (₿apps).

This marks the first time:

• Bitcoin optimistically verifies a bridge to a fully programmable layer.
• Bitcoin secures a programmable execution environment.

With Citrea mainnet, we expect a major shift in how Bitcoin is perceived, from passive store of value to an active, programmable asset.
